Die Autoren werteten die Daten von 16 randomisierten Studien mit 22.524 Patienten aus.
Normalerweise erhalten die Asthma-Patienten zur Langzeit-Symptomkontrolle die Kombinationstherapie ICS + LABA (inhalatives Kortison plus lang wirkende Betaagonisten), und zur Notfalltherapie ein inhalatives Beta-Mimetikum bei Bedarf.
Die aktuelle Meta-Analyse zeigte, dass die Kombinationstherapie ICS + LABA bei Kindern ebenfalls zur Schnelltherapie bei Asthma (SMART: single maintenance and reliever therapy) erfolgreich eingesetzt werden kann.
Die Kombinationstherapie IC+LABA als Erhaltungs- und Notfall-Therapie war erfolgreicher als die übliche Therapie mit ICS-Monotherapie als Erhaltungstherapie plus ein kurzwirksames Betamimetika für die Notfälle.
